US sprinter Maia McCoy is confident that she has what it takes to claim victory in the 100 metres race at the Kip Keino Classic.

McCoy is amongst a bevy of athletes, both from Kenya and beyond, who will take part in the sixth edition of the annual event at the Ulinzi Stadium in Nairobi.

She has so far had a taste of the running track and says she is looking forward to a race that will be adequate practice as preparations for the World Championships in Tokyo, which take place from September 13 to 21.

"First of all, I've had a good welcome to Kenya and everything has been smooth. I have already tried out the track and the stadium looks good. I'm looking forward to the race," she said Friday during the official meet press conference in Nairobi.

McCoy will compete in an unpredictable race, which will be one of the highlights of the Kip Keino Classic athletics at exactly 5:20 pm.

She will battle two Kenyans, Doreen Waka and Milicent Ndoro.

Also in the starting lineup are fellow American Shannon Ray, Egypt's Bassant Hemida, Liberian Destiny Smith Barnett and Botswana duo Murangi Refilwe and Tsaone Sebele.

"The competition will be tough, but I think I'm ready. I have competed already in the Diamond League this year and I came second and sixth, so I believe this is a good time to get a win here in Kenya," she added.

Following her stay in Nairobi, McCoy confirmed she will be headed to Italy next for another edition of the Continental Tour events.
